The Tale of Isva Raman

Last year, I had a pleasure to work with Najeev Nadarajah on his young adult fantasy book “The Tale of Isva Raman”. I created 10 black and white internal illustrations, as well as the cover page.

I really enjoyed illustrating this book, as I am also interested in ancient Indian philosophy; I have read the Mahabharata, Bhagavad Gita and Principal Upanishads. I am grateful that I got an opportunity to explore it together with Najeev through the unique world he created.

I’m planning to share illustrations in the special designated section of my website - in the meantime you can see the artworks on my instagram page, or on Najeev’s page here.

A short summary:

One stormy afternoon, Iśva Raman is waylaid by a demon Asura, who demands that he surrender the Seed. Raman, however, has never heard of this Seed. Confused and frightened, Raman is whisked away to a hidden temple where he learns about his accursed past and the incredible power of the Cosmic Seed. With the fate of the world at stake, Raman must find a way to keep the Seed out of the hands of the Asuras, or risk losing everything he holds dear.

You can read more about it on GoodReads here.

Time-lapse of the work in progress on one of the illustrations. I used Procreate, this one took ~30 hours (compressed to 30 seconds in video)

Stay tuned!
